Fashion: Doc Martens
By Alex Brennan Have you ever wanted a reliable pair of boots? I have the pair for you, a pair that’ll last a lifetime! Starting in 1901, the Griggs family were known for making boots in the small town of Wollaston, Northamptonshire in the English Midlands. Post war in 1945 Dr. Klaus Maertens, a 25-year-old soldier, while convalescing from a broken foot created a unique air-cushioned sole (rather than the traditional hard leather sole) to aid his recovery. In the 1970s, Doc Martens really got popular. Punk and grunge kids loved them as they became a symbol of self expression. In 2021, Doc Martens aren’t just in boot form anymore! They can be in heels, sandals, and regular dress shoes. They can range from $100 to $200 in pricing. The pricing may be expensive but worth it because they last forever. Junior Jiana Cruz loves her Docs. “Doc Martens have always been in style and are staples in many people’s wardrobe which is why I love them,” said Jiana Cruz. While Doc Martens do last forever, they sometimes take a while to break in, as they are usually made from high-quality leather or leatherette vegan-approved materials. Sophomore Alex Ludlow sees the commitment to breaking in news Docs as a special experience. “Well, I liked the style of Doc Martens, but one thing I don’t really like is that it takes a long time to break in the shoe. But at the same time, I like that it takes a long time. It’s symbolic and special to me,” said Ludlow. These shoes are important and special to many people because they last forever! You can order these lovely shoes off their website Drmartens.com. |

2021: A Time for Self-Reflection
By Cassidy Smith 2020 is one year most people would like to forget. So, as 2021 begins, many of us are making some New Year’s resolutions. Yet, getting over 2020 has taken a toll. As for me, my new year was ok, I found out I was trans/pan, we got a new puppy, and I got a girlfriend/boyfriend. Then I found out that we may have to put our one dog down, I lost my uncle due to a heart attack, and more.. From what experience I have the darkness follows the light, and nothing can change that. From 2020, I have more depression and anxiety, and I have people say I'm faking it. For me, My New Year’s resolution is that 2021 is going to be a time for me to get help and move forward. Other students looked back at 2020 as well. Junior Safyr Vogelsong acquired two new pets. “The best thing that happened this year was that I got two new kittens to play with,” said Vogelsong. Vogelsong pledged not to make a new year’s resolution for 2021. Senior Alyssa Lilling learned in 2020 that she prefers in-school learning. “I’m more antisocial when I stay home,” said Lilling. Moving forward, hopefully 2021 will be a better year for everybody. |
