The Football Playoffs
By Cohen Fondren March Madness along with The college Football Playoffs are some of the most watched sports events in America. But this year they looked a little different. Many colleges all over the country decided to cancel all athletic programs and go completely virtual. For example last year March Madness(which gets an average viewership of 10.5 million views) was cancelled in its entirety. This seemed like a safe but unfortunate option for students with sports scholarships. So some schools decided to find a way to continue with athletics however, some precautions had to be made. One of the ways the game changed this year was all coaches and players could face fines for not wearing their mask on the sidelines. Even through all the difficulties and challenges The college football championship was still made possible. Ranked number 1 Alabama Faced off against number 3 Ohio State. The first quarter was very back and forth Alabama would score a touchdown then Ohio State would answer with another one but in the second quarter Alabama took a commanding lead making the score 17-35 at the half. And from there on it was only up for Alabama. The final score was 52-24 and Alabama’s Devonte Smith finished with 215 yards with 3 TD just in the first half, setting a National Title record. CLA Cheer Team
By Sydney Gasque Our CLA Archer cheer team has been working very hard the past few weeks to be able to perform the best to our ability. However, due to Covid-19, they unfortunately have not been able to perform yet. Through these hard times, the cheerleaders make sure to keep a positive attitude and be there for each other. Senior Taylor Powell returned this year as a team leader. “The most important thing in cheer is the teamwork trust and companionship amongst the team,” said Powell. It’s not only important to work on your own skills and abilities during practices but also help each other so we can all be the best we can be. Senior Alyssa Lilling enjoys the opportunity to explore new experiences. “I think my best attribute in cheer that helps contribute to the team is my willingness to try new things. I think it helps create a more positive atmosphere when people are willing to try something new,” said Lilling. Yui Kono, a foreign exchange student from Japan is glad to have the opportunity to participate on the squad. “When I was in Japan, I was not a small person so I’ve never done such type of acting. Being a flyer is a kind of challenge for me, but trying something new is so fun! I think this is the last chance to do something as a small person, so I’d like to enjoy it,” said Kono. Hopefully before the season ends, the girls get the chance to perform for our basketball team. |
